Arctic Drilling Company (ADC) manufactures cutting age diamond core drilling machinery and provides customers with tailormade drilling services, rigs and expertise anywhere in the world, even in extreme conditions.

“When we introduce our company to our customers, we always tell them that we are from the Arctic Circle, not just because it seems exotic to foreign customers but because arctic environment has taught us to work even in extreme conditions, and that is a huge part of our experience,” said ADC Export Manager Aleksi Autti.

Headquartered in Rovaniemi, ADC is one of the Finland’s best players in the area. It has grown exponentially since its establishment 10 years ago. All its machines are built in Rovaniemi, at Teollisuustie.

Asked about what makes the company outstanding, Autti said, “The innovative solutions embodied in our machines are something very special compared to our competitors.”

Those special features are what have made the company one of the leading stars in the drilling arena and made it possible for it to achieve its 17 million euro sales revenue peak in 2012.

“The mining industry went down last year [2013],” said Autti, “but the worst is probably left behind and good times are ahead.”

“There has been a lot of growth since when Juha Säärelä started this business,” said Chief Executive Officer of the company Timo Kämäräinen. Back then the company had less than 10 employees. Now it employs 75.

Lapland has been a great environment for the business to grow and develop. The working fields have been close, said Kämäräinen. “In the busy times there wasn’t even so much competition, because there was work for everyone. In that way Lapland has provided us with very good conditions to grow and develop.”

The company got wind under its wings in 2006, thanks to Kittilä’s mining industry. Five years later, it received contracts from other Nordic countries. “And we are now global,” Kämäräinen said with obvious pride.

Focusing on his company’s immediate future goals, Kämäräinen said, “The economy in mining business has to peak up. Then we can start increasing staff. In five or six years we will have double, if not even triple, the number of staff now.”
