The postal strike begins on Thursday after talks between the Post and Logistics Union (PAU), the union representing postal workers and the Service Sector Employers’ Association (Palta) broke down.
PAU announced that the strike will begin at 4:00 p.m. today.
National Conciliator Minna Helle warned that the collapse of the talks could result in a lengthy strike, if the disputing parties do not change their positions.
Both parties in the dispute said the key issues remained unresolved.

PAU Chair Heidi Nieminen said the next step is to look at when other unions under the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions-SAK initiate their support strikes.
The biggest question in the negotiations is whether the future of the postal sector will be safeguarded through the changes in employment conditions and cost savings.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, the national postal corporation in an attempt to promote dialogue announced that it would not hire temporary workers from the service agency SOL during the strike.
Palta Deputy Director General Tuomas Aarto said Palta would standby by its decision not to hire temporary workers during the strike. According to Aarto, it seems that there is not enough pressure to resolve the issue.
