Ice cream that Arctic Ice Cream Factory, the only ice-cream factory in Lapland, has made became popular with local residents and international tourists just in a year.
The factory owner, Anna-Riikka Lavia, believes that small stuffs and happy moments are the most important thing in life.
“It was a bad economic condition due to recession and its effects. It was hard to make the final decision. Well, maybe, you cannot buy a Mercedes for new experience, but you can buy an ice cream for your happiness,” she said.

FTimes Photo The company, which started production in January 2015, now regularly supplies to four Big K-Markets and 10 restaurants in Rovaniemi and other cities of Lapland, including popular tourism destinations of Saariselkä, Levi and Luosto.
The company produces ice-creams of 15 flavors. The production volume and the types of flavors increase on special occasions.
“When you eat the ice cream, you feel good. It reminds you of childhood moments — memories that are dear to us,” said Anna.
Local ingredients are used and berries other local materials are collected from them local producers.
Arctic Ice Cream Factory started its journey out of passion to unify the best ice cream ingredients with the northern natural products and the sweetest childhood memories.
It has its factory, running in collaboration with local chocolate and cake manufacturer Choco Deli, in Rovaniemi city.
Anna herself makes the ice creams, with the help of some interns. Anna said that it was important to have a strong network to run business and develop it further.
“Ice cream has always been my favorite and it’s nice to have own product.”
She studied Food Production in Lapland Vocational College and worked before as a project manager in different projects of regional development authority of Lapland..
Anna is happy about the development the business has made in the past year.
With new product varieties, the company expects a good season next summer.
She believes that it will be great experience for tourists to taste the local flavors.
“It’s just the beginning. I am very hopeful because we started well. We are now planning expansion and hoping to make new varieties available,” she said. More News
