The total number of registered vehicles grew by 2.3 per cent and the number of vehicles in traffic use went up by 0.4 per cent at the end of 2015 compared with the situation at the end of the year before.
The Finnish vehicle register contained 6,152,680 vehicles, of which 5,066,119 were in traffic use, at the end of 2015, according to Statistics Finland’s data.
The vehicle register of the Åland Islands contained 45,008 vehicles.
At the end of 2015, there were 3,257,581 passenger cars in the register, of which 2,635,643 were in traffic use as per the data based on the vehicle traffic register of the Finnish Transport Safety Agency and the vehicle register of Ålands Motorfordonsbyrå.
The number of registered passenger cars went up by 2.0 per cent and the number of passenger cars in traffic by 0.7 per cent.
The number of registered passenger cars was growing most in North Ostrobothnia and least in Satakunta.
The average age of registered passenger cars in Mainland Finland was 13.9 years and that of cars in traffic use was 11.7 years.
The average age of passenger cars was lowest in the region of Uusimaa 11.6 years and highest in the region of North Karelia 15.9 years, the statistics show.
The most common models of passenger cars in the register of Mainland Finland were Toyota Corolla, Volkswagen Golf and Toyota Avensis.
