The Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK) has ended all kinds of transaction and cooperation with Nordea following the bank’s alleged involvement in tax haven as per the disclosure of the Panama papers.
Arrangements for moving the bank accounts to another bank are to be made immediately, said the union in a statement. The union has a membership fee account with Nordea.
According to the Panama Papers, Nordea International Private Banking in Luxembourg in 2004-2014 set up nearly 400 tax haven companies in Panama and the British Virgin Islands.
“We expect companies in other industries and fields to have ethical and sustainable operations. Nordea's links to tax havens are undisputed and unacceptable,” said the union's chairman Heli Puura.
The trade union has 55,000 members.
Previously, the union AKT announced they would also stop cooperation with Nordea.
Earlier, the ruling Perussuomalaiset, main opposition Suomen Sosialidemo-kraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) and another opposition party, Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance) cancelled their transactions with the Nordea bank.
