Based on the blooming, a better than usual blueberry harvest is forecast by the Natural Resources Centre.
Blueberries started blooming this year about two weeks earlier than normal. The main harvesting in the South and Central Finland will be in mid-July. It will be a few weeks later in northern Finland.
The weather during the ripening period can still affect the harvesting season. During dry summers, the average weight of the blueberries is reduced, and a portion of the berries fall to the ground.
The lingonberry bloom, however, has been weaker than the blueberry bloom.
Based on the flowering, the lingonberry harvest this year is expected to be mediocre.
