Thu, 10 Jan, 2013 04:08:50 AM Digital info system, Online ticketing suspended Shahidul Islam and Jasim sarker, January 9 Country’s all the railway stations went under power outage simultaneously on Wednesday afternoon for three hours resulting suspension of all kind of digital services to the passengers.
Eye accounts and railway officials said that the online ticketing system, electronic information board, time-table and platform signboard system went out of order at about 13.00 O’clock due to the power failure caused by the power supply disruption at Pasila area in Helsinki.
The disruption, however, did not hamper the schedule of the railway communication, sources said.
´We failed to issue tickets as the information system in our network did not work,´ a railway official told Finland Times at Rovaniemi railway station on Wednesday evening, adding that platform signs were not visible and automatic station announcements system did not function due to the power failure. She also said that the disruption, however, did not hamper the railway services schedules as all the trains departed and arrived in due time. The authority allowed the passengers to buy ticket on board without any extra service charge. Director (electric Supply) of the Railway communication Mika Heijari told news media that the power supply restored at about 16.00 O´clock and all the stations in the country had to suffer due to the disruption
The digital monitors and automatic announcement system resumes activities at 18 o’clock.
Earlier, the Helsinki railway station had faced a similar power outage problem in December when the power supply disrupted for few moments due to construction works.
