Rinne believes the sanctions will have an impact but the actual scale of the consequences is not known.
According to Rinne, the Ministry of Finance is currently looking into whether to take note of the tense situation in next year’s budget.
The ministry will publish its budget proposal next week.
Kaj Turunen, a Perusuomalaiset (Finns Party) lawmaker and a member of the Parliament Commerce Committee, believes that Finland should not take part in imposing sanctions on Russia.
Turunen said in a statement that possible counter-measures by Russia could prove dire in the current situation. Turunen considers the measures taken recently against individuals as enough.
The European Union and the United States imposed visa ban and asset freeze on certain individuals following the crisis in Ukraine.
“The impact of the US and EU sanctions on the Finnish economy can be assessed but there is no information on the counter-measures by Russia,” pointed out Turunen in the statement.
Also, Parliament Grand Committee Chair Riitta Myller said that parliament needs more detailed information on the concrete effects on the sanctions imposed on Russia.
This comes after the EU and the US this week expanded sanctions on Russia to put more pressure on it to stop lending support to the rebels in Eastern Ukraine.
