National Bureau of Investigation Chief Robin Lardot has termed the reported attempt by an NBI investigator to sell secret information unfortunate to both the working community and the relatives of the suspect.
Lardot said the incident is taken very seriously within the police, since sensitive information cannot be leaked to the media or any other parties.
The NBI welcomed the fact that journalists themselves raised suspicions regarding the trading of information.
Late last month, the Finnish commercial broadcaster MTV News disclosed that a civil servant tried to sell secret police information to its editors pertaining ongoing police terrorism investigations.
Lardot said the suspect is an experienced police officer who is well regarded at the workplace. What made him approach MTV with regard to this issue remains a mystery, he added.
