International Labour Organisation Director-General Guy Ryder will be visiting Finland from November 25 to 26 to hold talks on labour market and different socio-political issues.

A press release of the Ministry of Employment and Economy said during the visit labour market and socio-political matters will be discussed, as well as development of working life both in Finland and on the global level.

During his visit Director-General Ryder will meet Prime Minister Alexander Stubb, Minister for Foreign Affairs Erkki Tuomioja, Minister of Labour Lauri Ihalainen, Minister of Social Affairs and Health Laura Räty, and Minister for International Development Sirpa Paatero. The visit also includes a bilateral meeting with President Tarja Halonen. Ryder will also meet the leaders of Finnish labour market organisations.

On Tuesday, November 25, Ryder will participate in a seminar entitled “A global challenge – more and better jobs”. At the seminar, it will be considered what kind of labour market and socio-political challenges are met and what kind of opportunities may be created for development of working life in industrialised and developing countries by economic globalisation and technological development. It will also be discussed how ILO, Finland and labour market organisations may respond to these challenges and opportunities.

On Wednesday, November 26, Ryder will have a tour at the Konecranes business in Hyvinkää. He will be presented the use of innovation and new technology in creating work opportunities in developing countries and the role of Finnish organisations and companies in this cooperation.

Guy Ryder, a British citizen, was nominated as ILO director-general in May 2012. This is his first visit to Finland since taking on this position.
