Thu, 21 May, 2015 12:04:18 AM FTimes – STT Report, May 21 ![]() File Photo – Str / Lehtikuva. Approximately 3,000 men seek help from the Federation of Mother and Child Homes and Shelters annually. The number has grown many times over in the past 10 years, the federation reports.
Most assistance is sought for fatherhood. Fathers experience some family crisis or some other situation that affects the whole family and wish to be active in finding assistance.
According to Tia Sireeni, a corresponding supervisor of the federation, men’s roles are these days many and varied. Men face the challenges of being fathers, spouses, employees, friends, immigrants and citizens.
“Services should follow these changes. The diversification of the ‘male image’ requires more targeted help, and the main problem is that the old models of assistance no longer work,” said Sirreni.
The federation is being told that men want to come and be met as individuals, not just as problems.
