Sun, 23 Aug, 2015 12:01:44 AM FTimes – STT Report, Aug 23 ![]() Animal rights groups gathered in Helsinki. File Photo - Lehtikuva. Finns prefer to donate money to benefit animals than to development aid, said a recent poll conducted by Finnish language national daily Helsingin Sanomat.
Around one fifth of respondents could imagine putting money towards development aid, while more than one in four supported animal welfare.
The favourite target for the respondents was children, which a small majority of respondents preferred.
Instead of development aid, the respondents would rather have given money to nature conservation, the poor here in Finland, and the disabled.
The Gallup poll also asked whether Finland should move towards being a charitable society in which voluntary distribution of income is instituted. Of the respondents asked, 48 percent "completely disagreed," while 28 percent "somewhat disagreed."
One thousand people responded to the TNS Gallup poll in June. The margin of error is about three percentage points.
