Archbishop Kari Mäkinen of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland believes the country does not face a refugee crisis; instead, the crisis exists in those places left by these people.
“It is unreasonable to speak of crisis here and hold the asylum seekers the cause of the crisis,” said the archbishop at a church convention in Turku.
Mäkinen believes Europe and Finland should not close their borders to asylum seekers, because that will only increase the emergence of illegal entries and inhuman abuses.
“The most important is to create safe and legal routes to Europe. The European churches have always highlighted this,” said Mäkinen.
The church convention will continue until Friday.
