Finnish women are suspected of attempting to purchase sex from unaccompanied underage asylum seekers, reported Svenska Yle, the Swedish section of National broadcaster and Finnish language tabloid Ilta-Sanomat.

According to an employee at the Helsinki Deaconess Institute, a fee of euro 20 was offered for exchange of sex during the Christmas session at the Helsinki railway station.

News agency STT on Friday failed to reach the employee to comment on the issue.

Helsinki Deaconess Institute Director Marja Pentikäinen told STT that she was aware of only one incident which has been reported to the child welfare.

The need for a possible crime report will be assessed later.

Pentikäinen said she was not exactly certain of the number of incidents. Similarly, she could not shed light on the extent of the phenomenon even though the matter is serious.

The director of the Children of the Station organisation Christian Wentzel said no such incident had been brought to the attention of the organisation.

Attempt to purchase sex from underage asylum seekers is not a common phenom-enon, according to the assessment of the police and parties working with asylum seekers.

Police inspector Jonna Turunen said the Helsinki police have not received crime reports on the matter.
