FTimes- Xinhua Report, Mar 18

Sulfuric acid was leaked in a road accident on Thursday in southern Finland, causing evacuation of residents and closure of a school, local media reported.

The incident took place about 5 kilometers away from the city center of Lahti in the morning.

According to police, the truck carrying over 40 tons of sulfuric acid crashed into two roadside trees after the driver lost control, and a few tens of liters of sulfuric acid was leaked into the ground. No casualties were reported,

Residents living in nearby apartment buildings were evacuated and a basic school close to the scene was closed for at least one day, said Finnish language evening tabloid Iltalehti.

The local rescue department said that cleaning of the area would take several hours.

Sulfuric acid is a highly corrosive, strong mineral acid. Exposure to sulfuric acid without proper protection may lead to severe eye and respiratory tract irritation and tissue damage.
