Police suspect the school fire which broke out in Saarijärvi, in Central Finland on Wednesday was started deliberately. According to police, the suspect is a student of the primary school.
The fire began in two locations: a bathroom and a cleaning cart in a hallway. The fire was quickly extinguished. It produced a lot of smoke but otherwise caused no damage or risk to students, police said.
Hundreds of students were evacuated from the school.
Police have interrogated the suspect. He did not give a motive for his actions, but later confessed of his wrongdoing. The case has been transferred to child welfare authorities, the police said.
