Former president Martti Ahtisaari on Thursday criticised making asylum seekers’ family reunification difficult.
In an interview with the newspaper consortium Lännen Media, Ahtisaari said he does not consider the government’s intention to tighten the conditions for asylum seekers’ family reunification a good thing.
The former president said ageing Finland needs 20,000-30,000 workers from elsewhere a year.
He also remarked that the immigrants are generally viewed in a bad light in the country.
Ahtisaari expressed the hope that the country would use more development cooperation funds for the newcomers’ education.
