Three cadets were injured in an explosives accident during a Jaeger brigade firing exercise in Kemijärvi on Saturday.
The accident occurred in the afternoon at the Sarriojärvi training grounds, when one of the cadets picked up an unexploded anti-personnel mine ignitor. The ignitor exploded in his hand.
The cadet who picked up the ignitor sustained injuries at his right hand.
He was sent to a hospital. Two other cadets were also injured slightly in the explosion.
“His thumb and index finger are not the same as before,” said training leader of the brigade Lieutenant Colonel Reima Vanhanen.
There were four people present when the ignitor exploded, all of which are suspected to have hearing loss.
According to Vanhanen, it is possible that the ignitor was left on the ground during a winter exercise.
