The chair of the main opposition Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland), Antti Rinne on Sunday criticised the Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) for supporting racist activities and racist-minded people.
Talking to the Finnish language newspaper Kaleva in an interview, he also blamed the Perussuomalaiset, a component of the three-party alliance government, for having a two-faced character in anti-racist activities. “Even though they publicly state that they do not condone hate speech, individuals talk on matters related to immigration are quite different. This does not help feeling that there is going to be a phenomenon where they publicly denounce racism, but nevertheless, it would be nice to get the votes,” Rinne said. In Finland there should be a clear parliamentary instituted programme which would handle immigration policy without any regard to the composition of the government. “The programme adopted by parliament would make it clear how matters would be handled in Finland and under what principles,” Rinne added.
