Fri, 14 Oct, 2016 12:05:11 AM FTimes – STT Report, Oct 14 ![]() Summer cottage. File Photo – Lehtikuva. The number of incidents of burglaries in cottages has been fewer in the recent past, said the National Police Board.
Regional disparity is, however, huge. For example, in Uusimaa and Ostrobothnia regions, burglaries have increased, however, in the rest of the country burglaries have decreased significantly.
According to the police, it is difficult to point a single reason for the decline in burglaries targeting cottages. It is possible that the success of the police in solving extensive asset crime cases has played a part in reducing the burglaries, said the police.
By the end of September, the police were notified of just under a thousand cottage burglaries. On average, four cottage burglaries are committed on a daily basis.
The police have urged owners to pay attention to winter protection of cottages, and that valued possession should not be left in the cottages during winter.
