Number of employed people decrease in private sector

The country’s unemployment rate increased slightly and reached 7.9% in November, compared to 7.3% the year before, according to the Labour Force Survey report of the Statistics Finland released on Friday.
 
The number of unemployed people in November 2013 was 210,000, which was 17,000 higher than a year ago, said the report.
 
In November 2013, the number of employed people was 2,431,000, which meant there were 32,000 fewer employed people than in November last year.

There were 14,000 fewer employed men and 18,000 fewer employed women than in November 2012.
 
The number of employed persons decreased in the private sector but remained almost unchanged in the public sector.

In November, the employment rate – which is the proportion of the employed among persons aged 15 to 64 – stood at 67.8%, which was 0.6 percentage points lower than a year before. 
 
From last year’s November, men’s employment rate fell by 0.5 percentage points to 68% and women’s by 0.7 percentage points to 67.5%, according to the survey.
