Some 19.6% of all employed persons were aged 55 to 74, said preliminary data from Statistics Finland's employment statistics for the year 2012.

Those in the baby boom generation were aged between 63 and 67 in 2012. Around 62,000 of them, or 16%, were still employed, the data says.

The age distribution of employed persons has centred on older age groups particularly since the early 2000s along with baby boomer generations.

The share of persons belonging to the 55-74 age-group has risen in nearly all examined years from 1987 to 2012.

The growth in the share has accelerated particularly from 2000 onwards, when the first baby boomers (born in 1945 to 1949) became 55 years old.
