The Finnish dairy company Valio has been forced to process new import permits for lactose-free dairy products.

At the same time, Russia is to limit the range of lactose-free dairy products. According to Valio, curd is no longer on the list of dairy products allowed.

On Wednesday, Russian authorities stopped trucks transporting freshly processed dairy products at the border.

The authorities demanded new certificates to permit the imports.

The new regulations will add more work to the company, since the prohibited products have to be unloaded from the already loaded trucks.

Mika Koskinen, head of the company’s Russia and Eastern Markets, said he could not estimate how long the permits will take to be processed.

Koskinen feared that the documents could take a long time but hoped that the uniqueness of the situation would be taken into account.

Koskinen said the lactose-free dairy free products will not be spoiled because the trucks are equipped with coolers. Some products can still be sold for up to a month, said Koskinen.
