Source: Employment Statistics, Statistics Finland. Number of jobs in Finland decreased by 29,200 or 1.2 per cent from 2007 to 2012.
The biggest changes in the number of jobs occurred in residential care activities and manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products during the period, according to Statistics Finland’s data.
In the manufacturing industries, the number of jobs decreased by 76,300 or 19.2 per cent.
In 2012, there were around 2.3 million jobs in Finland, the statistics show.
In the year, the biggest industries measured by the number of jobs were human health activities (182,100 jobs), education (168,100), and retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles (157,500).
There were 321,200 jobs in manufacturing. Industries of human health and social work activities grew by 32,100 jobs or 9.1 per cent. There were 383,600 jobs in human health and social work activities.
From 2007 to 2012, the number of jobs decreased every year in nine industries. In the group of declining industries, the biggest decreases occurred in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products. The next largest decline was in manufacture of paper and paper products.
There were a total of 11 growing industries, where the number of jobs increased every year between 2007 and 2012. In these industries the biggest increase was seen in the number of jobs in residential care activities. The second and third largest growth occurred in food and beverage service activities and services to buildings and landscape activities, according to the data.
Viewed by region, the total number of jobs in 2007 to 2012 has grown only in Uusimaa,, North Ostrobothnia and Ostrobothnia while the number of jobs decreased most in Varsinais-Suomi.
