Clothing shops have begun to clear space for autumn clothes as summer discount sales begin to fade.

“More new stuff has already arrived. Autumn clothes will start mainly to be on sale as early as next week,” said Tuula Loikkanen from the Fashion Commerce in Finland (Muotikaupan Liitto ry).

Like many other businesses, clothing shops have suffered from the poor economic situation in recent years.

The summer discount sale which is coming to a close is not expected to be of significant relief to the clothing industry.

According to Loikkanen, discount sales are not an awful huge part of sales and its effect is quite small.

However, if the discount sale goes very well, it may translate to positive figures for an individual.

Dresses designed for hot temperatures and sandals have not sold well this year, revealed Loikkanen. On the other hand, there has been a higher demand for warmer clothes.

“Hooded jackets and long-sleeved clothes have sold well. These have to be put a little bit more on discount,” said Loikkanen.
