The majority of Finns are for increasing the tobacco taxation, reported a survey commissioned by the Foundation for Municipal Development.

The views of the respondents were examined in the survey which investigated the attitudes of Finns towards the government programme on taxation.

Easing of the tax burden on labour garnered most support from the respondents.

The majority of respondents also showed support for taxing boats and motor vehicles.

Most of the respondents were, however, opposed to increase in vehicle taxation as well as increase in taxation based on electricity and heat emission.

The supporters of the parties in power were more receptive to the government tax programme than opposition supporters.

However, opposition supporters were more supportive of annual increase in vehicle taxation than supporters of government parties.

Approximately a thousand Finns were interviewed in the survey.
