FTimes- STT Report, June 17

The government has proposed amendments to the length of trial period during employment as well as for fixed-term employment and re-employment situations.

According to the bill sent to parliament, the maximum duration of the probationary employment period would be shortened from six to four months.

In addition, the government proposes that the employers’ obligation not to hire new employees after layoffs be shortened from nine months to four months. However, if the employment relationship had lasted for more than 12 years, the obligation would be six months.

According to the proposal, the long-term unemployed could enter into fixed-term employment contracts without a defined reason.

The government aims to increase employment and employers’ willingness to hire new workers. The law has been prepared by a tripartite committee, and it is scheduled to come into force at the beginning of next year.
