Finland's population at the end of October was 5,485,210, according to Statistics Finland’s preliminary data.
 
Over the January to October period, the country’s population increased by 13,460 persons, which is 5,600 persons fewer than for the corresponding period of the year before.
 
The main reason for the population increase was migration gain from abroad with the number of immigrants being 10,160 higher than that of emigrants.
 
Natural population growth, or excess of births to deaths, was 3,300 persons.
 
According to the preliminary statistics for the January to October period, 22,720 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 12,560 persons emigrated from Finland.
 
The number of immigrants was 4,550 lower and the number of emigrants 870 lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
 
In all, 6,250 of the immigrants and 8,700 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
 
During the January to October period, 46,520 children were born, which is 2,110 children fewer than in the corresponding period of 2014.
 
The number of deaths was 43,220, which is 190 lower than one year earlier.
 
The number of inter-municipal migrations totalled 235,330 over the January to October period as shown in the statistics.
 
Compared with the previous January to October period, the increase was 4,120 migrations according to the municipal division of 2015.
