FTimes- Xinhua Report, Feb 26

A group of gunmen attacked a cash-in-transit vehicle with machine guns on a motorway near Salo, southern Finland, on Thursday, local media reported.

The group of five to six persons attempted to rob the security company G4S Finland's vehicle. They forced the driver to get out of the car and fired several shots with machine guns.

The shootings set a car in fire and affected traffic between Helsinki and Turku. Police was called immediately and no casualties were reported in the incident.

According to information provided by the security company G4S Finland, the robbery was a vain attempt and the robbers fled the scene quickly.

Timo Malinen, Chief Inspector at the South-Western Finland Police Department, told media that the robbers fled the scene in two cars. It is most likely that they initially had a third vehicle, which was destroyed by the fire.

At least some of the robbers were native Finns, said Malinen.
