Unknown miscreants threatened to blow up the Church Council building in Helsinki last week, reported the council’s online publication Valomerkki.

The assailants also threatened to stab the church workers.

The threat message said the attack would not be carried out if the church writes on its webpage that they are wrong and the anti-immigrant movement Rajat Kiini (close the border) is justified.

The miscreants also criticised, for instance, the work of women priests and the church’s rainbow activities.

The report, however, did not specify whether the threat was delivered by mail, email or telephone or by any other means.

The threat was taken seriously, said Juha Rajamäki, the assistant director of Communications Centre at the Lutheran Church of Finland.

The security operations at the Church Council have been enhanced after the threat was issued.

The police are investigating the matter but do not consider the incident a viable threat, police Sergeant Petri Jehkonen told the Valomerkki.
