The outgoing Foreign Trade Minister Lenita Toivakka has enjoyed the advantage of vehicle benefits from a car company whose “operational activities” she is not involved in, reported the national broadcaster Yle.

Under the law, such a benefit is held as a disguised dividend or tax evasion.

Toivakka told Yle that her interest in the company stems from being the company’s owner.

She owns two per cent of the company, and her husband and children the rest. She has announced her vehicle benefits in her minister’s declaration of interests.

Toivakka has admitted not to participating in the company’s activities.

Yle reported that under the tax law, a company car is considered salary and may only be paid as compensation for contributions to the company’s work.

Otherwise a car benefit given to an owner is a hidden dividend, according to the law.
