Voters can choose their favourite dish at kansallisruoka.fi until the end of September.
From the proposals, a jury board will select 12 finalists, and a vote will decide the winner. The food that receives the highest number of votes will be announced early next year.
The project is being carried out by the Finnish Food Culture Promotion Foundation ELO and the Confederation of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners MTK.
The jury includes food culture Professor Johanna Mäkelä, historian and writer Lasse Lehtinen, and Gastronomic Society President Kim Palhus.
The jury is responsible for ensuring that the finalists represent a wide range of stories, raw ingredients and preparation of Finnish cuisine.
