Wed, 31 Aug, 2016 02:14:06 AM FTimes-STT Report, Aug 31 ![]() File Photo Lehtikuva. The police on Monday recaptured a prisoner immediate after he had escaped from the Turku prison, reported the Finnish language tabloid Iltalehti.
According to the newspaper, the prisoner dislodged a third-floor window and made it to the ground using a makeshift rope of bed sheets and then climbed over the prison wall.
The prison guards realised it immediately after the incident and informed the police.
The police managed to apprehend the jail-breaker within three hours after being informed.
The incident of the jail-breaking is the first ever in the Turku prison, police and prison sources said.
Previously, the prison inmates had reportedly broken out of confinement but only to the prison yards. Such escapes occurred, for instance, when prisoners were under hospital care.
The Monday’s jail-breaker is serving a long prison term for drug offences.
The authorities refused to divulge how the prisoner escaped to keep the way the escape was made a secret.
