Wed, 31 Aug, 2016 12:06:13 AM Many held, accounts frozen FTimes – STT Report, Aug 31 ![]() Mailboxes. File Photo – Lehtikuva. A racket of frauds has been suspected of stealing bills from people’s letterboxes and then replace them with forged bills in the Satakunta region in recent times, the police said.
The police are investigating into the crimes after the incidents came into light.
Genuine-looking bills with swapped bank account numbers were delivered to the original recipients, said the police.
The police have received roughly 20 crime reports on the racketeering and arrested a number of people in this connection.
Bank accounts of some suspects have also been frozen in the meantime, said the police.
The perpetrators were aiming to accumulate hundreds of thousands of euros through the fraudulent scheme, but the police have managed to prevent some transactions in cooperation with the banks.
The criminals, however, have already withdrawn thousands of euros from the said accounts.
