The Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church has not changed its doctrine defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

The decision was taken at the Bishops’ meeting at the church’s annual synod in Joensuu on Wednesday.

Although gay marriage law will take effect from the March next year, they will not sanctify same-sex marriages, said the bishops at the meeting.

According to the report, however, the Church does not exclude a variety of family types or sexual or gender minorities.
