The Central Finland Police suspected six people of cheating an elderly lottery winner of millions of euros, reported the Finnish language tabloid Ilta-Sanomat.

According to information received by the Ilta-Sanomat, the scam involved a 70-year-old man who bagged millions of euro by winning a lottery in the spring.

Soon after the win, a group of men unknown to the winner began hanging out with him, and then used millions of the winner’s money during the spring and summer for, among other things, the purchase of a trotting horse.

The police said this type of offence is aggravated fraud.

The Pirkanmaa District Court remanded the suspects in custody.

Some of the suspects are active figures in Finnish horse racing circles.
