The number of threats faced by Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance) lawmakers has increased across the board in this parliamentary term, found a telephone survey conducted by the news agency STT.

In the Vihreätliitto (Green League), threats have been directed particularly at women and minority representatives.

Threats against politicians have become a common theme, including against Prime Minister Juha Sipilä’s family and against Green MPs. The Southwest Finland District Court has sentenced a man to 70 days of conditional imprisonment for issuing threats against the PM’s family and lawmakers Ozan Yanar and Emma Kari.

According to Left Alliance parliamentary group chairman Aino-Kaisa Pekonen, compared to the previous parliamentary terms, threats have increased significantly.
