A deputy director of prison has also been charged in connection with the suspicions surrounding former Helsinki drug unit police chief, Jari Aarnio who is now in jail for his alleged involvement with infamous barrel ring.

Deputy Prosecutor General Jorma Kalske revealed that deputy director of Jokela prison Jarmo Salminen is suspected of leaking confidential information to Aarnio back in 2013.

According to Kalske, the information is related to those who had previously been convicted in connection to the barrel ring case.

Aarnio was supposedly told which authorities had met the convicts and in which prisons were the convicts confined.

The deputy prison director was slapped with five charges of breach of official secrecy and one charge of abuse of office.

The prosecutor called for the deputy prison director to be fined, but the accused had denied any wrong doing.

"I feel that I have done my duty, and I have given certain normal information to another official who was in office at that time. My conscience is completely clean," Salminen told news agency STT.

Aarnio is also a suspect in the barrel ring case with court proceeding on his alleged involvement in the case due in May.

The deputy director of the prison is not a suspect in the case, and is also not suspected of having any link to the barrel ring case.

Aarnio has been in detention since November 2013. He denies all the allegations levelled against him.
