Prime Minister Alexander Stubb has described his Wednesday’s talks with Kremlin critic Mikhail Khodorkovsky as a “really good discussion” about the situation in Russia, international politics and economy.
The meeting was arranged on Khodorkovsky’s initiative.
It is important to get to hear different perspectives on Russia, remarked Stubb while talking to the news agency STT on Thursday.
“Khodorkovsky is in that sense a very interesting acquaintance, in that he has seen the Soviet Union, became rich after the collapse of the Soviet Union and had been in prison and labour camp.
“He has of course his own view on Russia development,” said Stubb.
Khodorkovsky is the founder of Open Russia, a movement whose purpose is to strengthen the civil society in Russia.
According to Stubb, Khodorkovsky hopes Russia will move towards the direction of liberal democracy.
