Both civilians and military personnel disabled while on crisis management missions are set to avail compensations on an equal footing.
Legislation towards this end is nearing completion and is set to be tabled before parliament at the end of next month.
The new legislation on accident will cover military tasks as well as civilian crisis management. The new law will drive civilian compensation matters on an equal footing.
Similarly, special circumstances will be taken into a better account than previously.
“For example, Frontex border guards and the police officers serving in Afghanistan are civilians who face same risks like soldiers,” said Mika Mänttäri, ministerial counsel at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.
Crisis management personnel will also have the opportunity to get psycho-social support.
