Former head of the Helsinki police drug unit Jari Aarnio revealed fresh information about his relationship with a prostitute named Saara during a court proceeding held on Wednesday.
Aarnio told the court that he promised to a dying millionaire that he would look after Saara.
According to Aarnio, Saara and the millionaire were known to him for a long time and that the millionaire wanted him to take care of the woman.
Saara herself admitted during pre-trial investigation into multiple criminal charges faced by Aarnio that she had been a long-time mistress to the millionaire. Furthermore, Saara said the millionaire had promised her two million euros in inheritance.
The woman said she did not receive the money and, according to her, Aarnio knew the millionaire so well that he was able to deliver the testament to her.
Saara was a witness after the death of the millionaire when the prosecutor brought aggravated tax fraud against the millionaire’s widow due to cash withdrawals amounting to millions. The widow was, however, acquitted.
She also revealed about the long-time relationship she had with Aarnio. Aarnio said he had previously met the woman only during the course of police work.
Aarnio has been in detention since November 2013 following a series of criminal suspicions brought against him.
