The police force has expressed the need more long-term funding, National Police Commissioner Seppo Kolehmainen told the Finnish language daily Savon Sanomat.
For years, the police have received appropriations from the state budget that fund only part of their activities. The rest of the funding comes from supplementary budgets.
In an interview with the newspaper, Kolehmainen said this financial model demands a lot of unnecessary work. As a result, the number of available police posts and training positions is always in flux.
Kolehmainen believes that politicians should abandon using fragmentary supplemental budgets and instead provide long-term, stable funding for the police.
