The increase in the number of asylum seekers this year will mean more work for the Supreme Administrative Court (KHO).
More than 30,000 refugees came to Finland last year, and they have the right to seek appeals of Immigration Service decisions from KHO.
KHO handles approximately 4,000 cases annually, and the number has not changed over the last year.
However, the increase in the number of asylum seekers could drive the number of appeals into the thousands, according to KHO.
KHO is adding staff this year in order to ensure fair processing in all matters, even if the volume of appeals increases.
KHO is recruiting judges, rapporteurs, and draftsmen.
KHO in a statement said immigration matters have, for the past couple years, been the largest group of appeals, forming around a quarter of all the issues handled by the court.
