Former Secretary of Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance) Marko Varajärvi has defected to Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP).
Varajärvi acted as the Secretary of Left Alliance until spring.
The defection of Varajärvi was first reported by Finnish language daily Pohjolan Sanomat.
Varajärvi justified his defection from Left Alliance on policies which he believes have not changed enough following the appointment of new chairperson Li Andersson.
Andersson described Varajärvi as troublesome pointing out that the former party secretary did not keep in touch before he defected.
