As many as 87 per cent of the Finnish children of the age of 8 already own a smartphone, reports a survey commissioned by the Finnish telecommunication company DNA.
Most often, a child’s first phone is purchased when they starting schooling.
Typically, a child acquires a mobile phone, mostly a smartphone, at the age of 6 to 7 correlating with the first days of school, and virtually all the children aged 12 use smartphones.
Guardians estimated that preschool and primary school-aged children use their phones most often for video services, while older children use social media more than their younger ones.
The survey covered more than a thousand guardians of children and young people aged 6 to 16.
