A man was killed when a tram knocked him down at Mannerheimintie in Helsinki late Thursday night. The victim was about 60 years old, said police.
Detective chief inspector of police Pekka Seppälä said that the man had alighted from the tram and started to cross the road, when a tram coming from the opposite direction hit him.
The paramedics tried to revive the man immediately after the accident but he died on the spot.
The identity of the victim could not be known immediately.
