Social Affairs and Health Minister Laura Räty has refuted claims that the Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party)-NCP would drive privatisation of social and healthcare services.

The minister made the remark in an interview with the Finnish language online newspaper Verkkouutiset.

The minister believes at least some of the services must remain publicly procured. According her, discharge of services, like special medical care, administrative tasks as well as pivotal national emergency services, childbirth and other services, should remain in the public domain.

The minister, however, said competition between private and public sectors should be possible.

The NCP advocates that all Finns should be able to choose between services procured privately or publicly, said Räty.

According to her, the newly agreed model of social welfare and healthcare regions referred to as SOTE regions should decide how services should be discharged.
