In a release, Häkämies said EK wants to clarify its position on sanctions imposed on Russia following public debate on the issue.
“EK has not made a presentation on the new sanctions. Instead, in cooperation with the authorities, we are evaluating the impact of various options,” said Häkämies.
According to the release, EK approves the sanctions as a tool to put pressure on Russia to give up violations of international law and approves Finland’s participation in the sanctions as a member of the European Union.
EK also supports all efforts for a political solution to end the crisis.
