FTimes Report, Jan 9

The need of multinational companies to distribute information generated in a national context on a global scale erodes the effectiveness of the national innovation policy with the benefits of the efforts increasingly leaking to other countries, according to a recent report.

Steps should be taken to ensure that the projects contribute to the added value of the units based in Finland to address the problem, for example with regard to the support provided by the Finnish

Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation Tekes, said a press release of the Government Communications Department on Thursday.

The observation was made referring to one of the conclusions in the report on implications of the globalisation of value networks for policies.

Commissioned by the Economic Council, the report was authored by Research Director Jyrki Ali-Yrkkö and Managing Director Petri Rouvinen of Etlatieto Oy.

The report discusses the implications of the internationalisation of inter-group value networks from the perspective of national policies, particularly in terms of the innovation, labour market and economic policies.

Additionally, the report provides new comparative data on the positioning of Finland against a number of other European countries in the international value chains, according to the release.
