The disruption faced by OP Pohjola online banking services resumed on Sunday afternoon after a brief break.

The bank on Sunday morning had announced that the denial-of-service attack which had disrupted the bank’s services for five days was over. However, a new onslaught began on Sunday afternoon.

Several customers took to the bank’s social media Facebook page, informing that they were unable to pay their bills via the bank’s online services.

Both OP Pohjola Group and Nordea contacted the police following the attacks and investigations are on into the matter.

OP Pohjola said the situation had intensified over the weekend.

The helpline for the bank’s customers abroad was accorded an extension until Monday afternoon.

“There have been calls from abroad. Everyday banking business, such as payment of bills, has been taken care of,” said Carina Geber-Teir, chief communications officer at OP Pohjola Group.

Customers have been advised to contact their respective branches in case of damages incurred. Claims for compensation will be assessed on individual basis.

The denial-of-service-attack on OP Pohjola Group began on New Year’s Eve, while attack on another Finnish bank, Nordea, which has since overcome the problem, began on Friday.
